RENEWED: SECTION 5.1

To be completed by March 23, 2025

Before beginning, make sure to set a prayer space for your family gatherings. Set a space that encourages the family to sit close together so that it’s easier to have meaningful  conversations and prayer time as a family. It’s a good idea to have sacramental objects out, such as, rosaries, holy water, medals, statues, images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, Bible, Cross, etc.

1. GATHER (Opening)

BEFORE YOU BEGIN, make sure to have paper, pen or a wipe-off board and a marker.

Family Time:

Today we will learn more about God’s love for us, even when we do something wrong. We will focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation which is the sacrament of God’s mercy. Before prayer, take time for some family fun to see how well you know each other. Write the answers on a paper or wipe-off board.

PARENTS -

Ask your child the question but you the parent writes the answer down first BEFORE your child answers. Parent reveals what they think the answer is first, then your child answers. Ask your child:

  1. If you could have any superpower what would it be?
  2. Where do you want the next family vacation to be?
  3. What is your favorite night snack or treat?
  4. What has been your favorite family outing or vacation?
  5. If you were able to meet a famous person who would it be?
  6. What good qualities do you bring to the family?

STUDENTS -

Ask your parents the question but you the student writes the answer down first BEFORE your parent answers. Student reveals what they think the answer is first, then your parent answers.  Ask your parent:

  1. What is your favorite thing we do together as a family?
  2. If you had a day off, alone, what would you want to do the most?
  3. Are you a better singer or dancer?
  4. What Olympic sport would you want to participate in?
  5. What is a good quality about yourself?
  6. Why do I want my child(ren) to have a relationship with Jesus?

Opening Prayer:

(Together, make the sign of the Cross) In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Parent: God, may Your light guide our days, and your spirit bring us peace.

All: Amen.

Student: God, may our Lenten sacrifice, (what we gave up during Lent) remind us of our dependence on You for all the blessings we enjoy.

All: Amen.

Parent: May we stand in solidarity today with all our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. May we be united in your love, and may we work to build your kingdom here on earth.

All: Amen.

Student: Heavenly Father, we are truly sorry for the moments where we miss the mark. We ask for your forgiveness and the strength to better follow Your call tomorrow.

All: Amen.

Parent: God, we lift up (name of the person you’d like to pray for) today. we ask that you bless them abundantly today and throughout Lent.

All: Amen.

All: Oh Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything. Amen!
