Before beginning, make sure to set a prayer space for your family gatherings. Set a space that encourages the family to sit close together so that it’s easier to have meaningful conversations and prayer time as a family. It’s a good idea to have sacramental objects out, such as, rosaries, holy water, medals, statues, images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, Bible, Cross, etc.
Family Time:
Today we will learn more about Jesus. We will read about Jesus’ life, his teaching, and his healing miracles. We will be reminded how he saves us from sin. Remembering how sin separates us from God, we will learn how Jesus restores our friendship with God. We will also learn that the Sacrament of Reconciliation is one powerful way that Jesus heals us today.
Before prayer: Student, complete the “Portrait of Jesus” Activity on page 68. When you’ve completed the activity on page 68, have the student share their words that describe Jesus. Have the rest of the family share their words that describe Jesus.
Opening Prayer:
(Together, make the sign of the Cross) In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Parent: Close your eyes and take a moment to think of someone you want to pray for. (Pause)
Together, let us pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come, they will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Families, together read through pages 69-73 before watching the video. Questions at the end of each page are to be shared in the discussion questions portion below.
As a family, watch video Section 3. CLICK HERE for the video. Stop at minute 4:22.
After reading pages 69-73 and watching the video, together answer the Check Your Understanding questions in the book on pages 74-75.
Discussion Questions:
(Make sure to go around the room so everyone can share their answer).
Activity:
As a family, complete the “Find It” Activity on page 78.
Closing Prayer:
Close in prayer by having everyone read together on page 79. (Remember to do the Sign of the Cross before beginning to read the prayer and then again at the end).
End the gathering by offering a sign of peace (and a hug) to one another.
Challenge: Students, these next few weeks, ask family and friends what they know about Jesus. Write it down and be ready to share for next time we all meet.
DON’T FORGET to fill out the Family Gathering Form below with a photo of the family working on the lesson. Completing the form is mandatory and counts towards your attendance.
