YEAR 1 - SECTION 3.1

Section 3.1 to be completed by 3/24/24

Before beginning, make sure to set a prayer space for your family gatherings. Set a space that encourages the family to sit close together so that it’s easier to have meaningful  conversations and prayer time as a family. It’s a good idea to have sacramental objects out, such as, rosaries, holy water, medals, statues, images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, Bible, Cross, etc.

1. GATHER (Opening)

Family Huddle: Go around and have each member share their answers to following questions:

  1. What would you do if you made the rules at home?
  2. What is a favorite family memory, outing, or adventure that you remember? What do you remember most about it?

Affirmation: Each student will stand and repeat the following:

  • I am loved and lovable. I am capable of doing hard things.
  • I will choose joy in good and bad times because no matter what, God is with me.
  •  I know in my heart that God loves me and He wants the very best for me, always!

Prayer: Refer to the book Pg. 77 for opening prayer.

Icebreaker: Student, color the Tabernacle on Page 84.

2. PROCLAIM (Teaching)

As a family, watch video lesson 3.1 from Fr. Andrew:

(Families are encouraged to read through pages 80-83 but it is not required. The video covers the main points of this section.)

While watching the video, answer the Check Your Understanding questions in the book on page 89.

3. BREAK (Break It Open)

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why was it hard for some of Jesus’ followers to believe that He is the bread of life? What happened to those who didn’t believe?
  2. Students, ask your parents why they want you to receive the gift of Jesus in Holy Communion. Then, tell your parents why you are excited to receive Jesus in Holy Communion.

4. SEND (Living It Out)

For this lesson, plan on making a visit as a family to our Church or any Church. At the Church locate the Tabernacle like the one you colored on page 84 and take a few moments to pray as a family. After you’re done praying, make sure to take a photo of the Tabernacle to send in to us along with the Family Gathering Form.

Closing prayer - Close in prayer by having everyone read together on page 91.

(Remember to do the Sign of the Cross before beginning to read the prayer and then again at the end).

End the gathering by offering a sign of peace (and a hug) to one another.

DON’T FORGET TO:

  • CLICK HERE to fill out the Family Gathering Form once you have completed this family gathering. Completing the form is mandatory,
  • Put a word or phrase from this gathering on the 3.1 branch of your family tree handout.
