RENEWED: SECTiON 1.1

To be completed by January 26, 2025

Before beginning, make sure to set a prayer space for your family gatherings. Set a space that encourages the family to sit close together so that it’s easier to have meaningful  conversations and prayer time as a family. It’s a good idea to have sacramental objects out, such as, rosaries, holy water, medals, statues, images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, Bible, Cross, etc.

1. GATHER (Opening)

Family Time:

Today we will be reminded that God created all things. We are made in his image and likeness. To start, give each family member a piece of paper. Have each person write their name at the top of the paper. Then, have each person pass the paper to their right. Each person looks at the name at the top of the paper. Below the name, write one quality of God that person shows to the world (for example, kindness, patience, or creativity). Pass the papers again to the right. Continue until each person has their own paper in front of them again. Invite each person to read aloud what the others wrote about them.

Opening Prayer:

(Together, make the sign of the Cross)

In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Parent: O Jesus in the Eucharist, King filled with compassion,

Everyone: Come, reign in me and in my family.

Parent: O Jesus in the Eucharist, King of infinite mercy,

Everyone: Come, reign in me and in my family.

Parent: O Jesus in the Eucharist, King who is all truth and beauty,

Everyone: Come, reign in me and in my family.

Parent: Mary, Mother of God, St. Joseph, protector of the Holy Family,

Everyone: Help us to love Jesus and to commit ourselves completely to Him.

Parent: O Jesus in the Eucharist, Prince of Peace,

Everyone: Come, reign in us! AMEN!

Scripture Story:

Together, Read Page 7 then have everyone answer the question at the bottom of the page. (Why do you think God created all things)?

2. PROCLAIM (Teaching)

As a family, watch video 1.1 from Fr. Andrew. CLICK HERE for the video.

(Families are encouraged to read through pages 8-11 together before watching the video. Questions at the end of each page are to be shared in the discussion questions portion below).

After reading pages 8-11 and watching the video, together answer the Check Your Understanding questions in the book on pages 12-13.

3. BREAK (Break It Open)

Discussion Questions:

(Make sure to go around the room so everyone can share their answer)

  1. How do you think God feels about you?
  2. What are some ways you can care for God’s creation?
  3. Is there a place or a person that makes you feel God’s love? Describe that place or that person.

Activity:

Students, complete the “Creation Landscape” Activity on page 16.

4. SEND (Living It Out)

Closing prayer:

Close in prayer by having everyone read together on page 17.

(Remember to do the Sign of the Cross before beginning to read the prayer and then again at the end).

End the gathering by offering a sign of peace (and a hug) to one another.

DON’T FORGET to fill out the Family Gathering Form below with a photo of the family working on the lesson. Completing the form is mandatory and counts towards your attendance.
